How to copy and use an Instagram Reel link
The important part is copying the address of the individual Reel—not a profile, inbox, or collection page. This guide shows where to find that link and how to check it before using the downloader.
Copy a Reel link in the Instagram app
- Open the Reel so it is the active post on screen.
- Tap the share control (usually the paper-plane icon) or open the ••• menu if Copy link is not shown in the share sheet.
- Choose Copy link. Instagram places the Reel URL on your device clipboard; it does not download the video at this stage.
- Return to the Instagram video downloader, paste the copied address, and submit it.
The wording and location of the share action can move between Instagram app versions. If the first panel only shows people and messaging apps, look for a secondary options row or the three-dot menu on the Reel.
Copy the URL in a desktop or mobile browser
Open the Reel as its own page, then copy the complete address from the browser bar. On a phone, you may need to tap the address once before the browser shows its Copy command. A correct address normally contains a short code after /reel/ or /reels/.
If the address bar only shows instagram.com/username, you are still on the creator's profile. Open the Reel itself before copying. The downloader needs a post code; a username alone does not identify which video you mean.
Recognize a supported Reel address
The most common Reel paths look like these:

Instagram can also produce shorter /share/... or /s/...links. Those links must first redirect to a supported public post. Regular/p/CODE video posts and older /tv/CODE pages belong to the downloader's broader Instagram support, even though they are not Reel URLs.
Check the link before troubleshooting the tool
Paste the copied address into a private browsing window where you are not signed into Instagram. If it opens the intended Reel there, it is a useful sign that the post is publicly accessible. If Instagram asks for an approved account or reports that the page is unavailable, the same access boundary can prevent a server-side lookup.
Do not share login details or session cookies to make a private Reel work. This public-post workflow is not designed to sign in as you or to bypass the audience selected by the creator.
Why a copied Reel link can fail
- The wrong screen was copied. Profile, Explore, inbox, saved-collection, and audio pages do not identify one downloadable post.
- The Reel is no longer public. A creator may remove it, switch the account to private, restrict its audience, or limit access by region or age.
- The share link did not resolve. Open it in your browser, wait for Instagram to reach the final Reel page, and copy that final URL.
- The response is temporarily unavailable. Confirm that the post still opens publicly, wait briefly, and try the same individual post link once more.
What happens after you submit the link
The downloader inspects the media attached to that public post. A Reel may produce more than one distinct video rendition, while a carousel can return separate video and photo items in its published order. Available dimensions come from the source; the tool does not manufacture a higher resolution or promise that every video has the same format choices.
Preview the detected item before saving, especially when the copied link came from a message or a long browsing session. Download and reuse only media you own or have permission to keep.
