To download a Threads video, copy the link to the public post, paste that URL into the Threads Downloader, review the media it finds, and save an available video rendition. The basic process is the same on a phone or computer; only the final location of the downloaded file changes.
The short version
- Copy the Threads post link.
- Paste the link into Threads Downloader.
- Review the available media.
- Download and save the video.
Threads Downloader works with media exposed by public, accessible posts. It cannot unlock private, restricted, or removed content.
Before you start
You need the URL of one Threads post, a browser, and enough local storage for the file. You do not need to provide your Threads password or install a browser extension. The post must be visible publicly when the downloader checks it.
Confirm these three details before troubleshooting anything else:
- The link opens a single post. A profile, search, feed, or topic URL does not identify one video.
- The post contains playable video. Text-only posts and image-only posts do not have a video file to return.
- You are allowed to save and use the media. A public post is viewable, but that does not automatically grant permission to republish its contents.
How to download Threads videos step by step
The method below begins in Threads and ends in your browser's download list. Interface labels can move as the Threads app changes, so use either the Share menu or the post's More menu when both are available.
1. Copy the Threads post link
Open the individual post containing the video. In the Threads app, open the Share or More menu and choose Copy link. On the web, you can copy the address from the browser while viewing that single post.
A post URL usually resembles https://www.threads.com/@name/post/ABC123. The username and post code will differ. If the copied text includes a sentence around the URL, paste only the complete web address into the downloader.
2. Paste the link into Threads Downloader
Open the download form, place the post URL in the input, and select Download. The Paste control can use your clipboard when the browser grants permission; manual paste works when clipboard access is blocked.
Keep the page open while the post is checked. Threads Downloader reads the public post response and lists the media renditions made available for that post. For a compact explanation of each control, see the quick-start guide.
3. Review the available media
Check the preview before saving. A post can contain one video or a carousel with several media items, and the preview helps prevent downloading the wrong item. When more than one rendition is exposed, Threads Downloader shows the available choices rather than inventing a higher-resolution version.
The largest listed rendition means the largest version available from the post at that moment. It should not be described as the creator's camera master, and it will not become 4K unless the source actually provides a 4K rendition.
4. Choose a rendition and save the video
Use the primary download action for the largest available choice, or open the quality menu when you prefer a smaller file. A smaller rendition can be useful on a limited mobile connection or when the video needs to fit an upload limit.
Your browser may save immediately, ask for a location, or open its download panel. Threads Downloader does not intentionally upscale or re-encode the selected rendition, and it does not add a watermark. Text, logos, captions, or watermarks already embedded by the creator remain part of the video.
How to save a Threads video on iPhone or iPad
- Copy the public post link in Threads.
- Paste it into Threads Downloader in Safari or your preferred browser.
- Choose the video rendition and start the download.
- Open the browser's download list or the Downloads location in the Files app to find the saved file.
If you want the video in Photos, open the downloaded file, use the system Share action, and choose Save Video when that option is available. The exact folder and prompt can differ by browser, iOS version, and your download settings. If nothing appears in Photos, check Files first rather than downloading the same video repeatedly.
How to save a Threads video on Android
- Use Copy link from the public Threads post.
- Resolve the link with Threads Downloader in Chrome or another browser.
- Select a rendition and confirm the browser download if asked.
- Open Downloads in your browser or device file manager.
Android browsers commonly use a Downloads folder, but device makers and browser settings can change the destination. A newly downloaded file may not appear in a gallery immediately while the device indexes it. Open it from Files or Downloads if the gallery has not refreshed.
How to download on Windows or Mac
Copy the post URL from Threads on the web or send the link from your phone to the computer. Paste it into Threads Downloader, choose the desired rendition, and start the download. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari normally show the file in their download panel when it finishes.
The default destination is often a Downloads folder. If you enabled a setting that asks where to save every file, choose a folder in the browser prompt. For an interrupted large download, use a stable connection or select a smaller available rendition rather than restarting the largest file several times.
Video quality, file size, and format
Resolution and file size are related but not interchangeable. A high-resolution video usually requires more data, while compression, duration, frame rate, and motion also affect its size. Pick the largest rendition when preserving available detail matters; pick a smaller one when transfer speed or storage matters more.
- Largest available is the best rendition exposed by the post, not a promise of an untouched production master.
- Up to 4K is possible only when the source post supplies a rendition at that resolution.
- File compatibility depends on the media served by the source and the capabilities of your browser and player.
- No added watermark means Threads Downloader does not place new branding over the file; existing visual marks remain.
If the post contains photos or several items instead of one video, use the photo and carousel guide. For content hosted on Instagram, the Instagram Reels guide explains that workflow separately.
Troubleshooting common download problems
The link is not recognized
Return to the individual post and copy its link again. Confirm the URL includes the post path, remove punctuation copied after it, and avoid profile or feed links. If a messaging app shortened or wrapped the URL, open it in a browser and copy the final address.
No downloadable video is found
The post may contain only text or photos, the video may no longer be exposed, or the post may be unavailable. Open the URL in a private browser window to check whether it is genuinely public. Threads Downloader cannot bypass a private-account boundary or recover deleted media.
Clipboard paste does not work
Clipboard access is controlled by the browser. Click or tap in the input and use the device's normal Paste command. You can also review the site permission for clipboard access, but that permission is not required when you paste manually.
The video opens instead of downloading
Some browser and media combinations open a playable file in a tab. Use the browser's download control or its Save action. On mobile, check the browser download list afterward; opening a preview does not always place a copy in Photos or Gallery.
The download stops before completion
Retry on a stable connection and keep the browser tab active. If several renditions are available, a smaller one can complete more reliably on a limited connection. Also confirm that the device has enough free storage.
Privacy, copyright, and permission
A downloader should not be used to defeat access controls. Submit only public post URLs and never enter a Threads password into the form. The privacy page explains how Threads Downloader handles requests, while the terms describe acceptable use.
Creators retain rights in their work. Saving a copy for reference and publishing that copy to a new audience are different uses. Ask for permission before reposting, preserve attribution where appropriate, and consider platform rules and the law that applies to you. This guide provides technical information, not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download a video from a private Threads account?
No. Threads Downloader is intended for public, accessible posts and does not bypass login requirements, follower restrictions, or other access controls.
Will every Threads video be available in 4K?
No. You can choose only from renditions supplied for the post. A 4K option can appear when the source provides it, but lower-resolution source media cannot be upgraded into genuine 4K detail.
Do I need a Threads account or an app?
Threads Downloader does not ask you to sign in for a public post. You only need a supported browser and a complete post URL. Threads itself may still control how its pages behave in your region or browser.
Does Threads Downloader remove watermarks?
Threads Downloader does not add a watermark and does not promise to remove marks already embedded in the source. Creator branding, captions, and logos that are part of the video remain visible.
Is downloading a Threads video legal?
That depends on the content, your intended use, the creator's permission, applicable law, and platform terms. Public visibility is not the same as permission to copy or republish. Obtain permission when needed.
Ready to save a public Threads video?
Copy the post-level URL, check that you have permission to save the media, and let Threads Downloader show the renditions currently available from that post.
